Christmas Island
Captain Slocum sighted and passed the island in July 1897, noting it in Chapter 15 of Sailing Alone Around the World. Although he didn’t stop, he was was commemorated. Christmas Island issued a 20c postage stamp on September 1, 1978, featuring Captain Joshua Slocum as part of a "Famous Visitors" stamp set.
