The Joshua Slocum Society is helping restore a fish house on Brier Island known as the “Slocum Boot Shop.” When Joshua Slocum moved to Brier Island when he was 8 years old, his father opened up a cobbler shop to make boots for the local fisherman.
Part of the new display on Brier Island will be to create a replica boot shop from the 1850s. In addition, there will be information and materials about Joshua Slocum and sailing history.

We are working hard to get the Slocum Boot Shop ready for the 2026 summer season to welcome visitors. Our launch event will be on Saturday, June 27, 2026 where we will hold an Open House at the Slocum Boot Shop. We need to make sure our initial display is set up and ready to go by that date.
