The Joshua Slocum Society is restoring a fish house on Brier Island (Nova Scotia, Canada) known as the “Slocum Boot Shop.” When Joshua Slocum moved to Brier Island when he was 8 years old, his father opened up a cobbler shop to make boots for the local fisherman.
Part of the new display on Brier Island has been to create a replica boot shop from the 1850s. In addition, there is information and materials about Joshua Slocum and sailing history.

Volunteers worked hard to get the Slocum Boot Shop ready for the 2026 summer season. This involved cleaning and acquiring antiques. The launch event was on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
