Captain Joshua Slocum’s 1895-1898 solo circumnavigation is a classic sea tale – navigating around the world by the constellations and a one dollar tin clock, he found berths on five continents and across three oceans.

Off Morocco, pirates give chase.  He navigated both the harrowing Straits of Magellan and “The Milky Way,” the string of islands at the wild tip of South America. Hostile Patagonian natives tried to board the Spray under the cover of night. He then sailed into the overflowing hospitality of nearly three dozen exotic southern-latitude ports, dining at the invitation of chiefs, governors and international celebrities.

But a lifetime on the sea came before his famed voyage…
